Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides opportunities for individuals to reside in their own home. The program embraces the philosophy that individuals should have the opportunity to choose where and how they would like to live. The frequency and duration of staff support is based on the person’s abilities and level of support and/or supervision required.

The amount of staff support is determined by a team closely involved in the person's life and varies based on need. Many individuals are able to live in their own homes, drive their own vehicles and live and work in the community. The Arc of East Ascension embraces the philosophy of SIL services and works diligently to ensure each person has opportunities for choice, community participation, employment, recreation and fellowship.

To be eligible for the SIL Program, an individual must be on the NOW Waiver. To learn more about the different types of waivers available please see information provided by Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals.

To apply or inquire about eligibility for services provided by the Waiver services, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (OCDD) serves as the Single Point of Entry into the developmental disabilities services system. OCDD’s contact number is 1-866-783-5553.
